If you have been following our A-to-Z Feature Friday series, you would know, it is now time to showcase H!
One of the poster girls on the Running Department’s website – unveiling – H for Heng Pei!
Heng Pei is a research officer in ophthalmology. She loves running and bubble tea.
Let us get to know her. (and sorry guys, she is taken!)
: Heng Pei
RD: What sparked your interest in running?
HP: I have always loved running since I was a kid. Back then, I supposed running well helped with trying not to get caught in the game of Police and Thief, or trying my best to put the thieves in jail. The interest never waned since then.
RD: How did you start running with Running Department and what kept you running with us?
HP: I stupidly signed up for Standard Chartered full marathon in 2015, with zero long distance running under my belt. Luckily for me, Running Department (RD) had a 16-week training programme lined up, which I chanced upon, and I tried my best to follow it. During these weeks of running with RD, I made many friends, and because I wanted to keep the friendship going, I kept turning up for the runs even after the marathon was over.
RD: Share with us one of your favorite memories with Running Department.
HP: My favourite part would be all the pacing assignments which I’ve had the honour of doing. The bond with my fellow pacers is irreplaceable.

RD: Complete this sentence. If I’m not running, I will be …
HP: Erm… Dead? I really cannot imagine when running is totally out of my life.
RD: Tell us one something about yourself that’s not related to running.
HP: I love cooking!
RD: Understand that you are also a foodie & health enthusiast. What is the one indulgence you will allow in your healthy routine?
HP: I don’t think I’m really a health enthusiast! I’m all about balance and not depriving myself. But my one indulgence (at least on my wallet), is bubble tea! I drink it a few times a week, and I wish it was not so expensive. My favourite right now is the Da Hong Pao milk tea from LiHo (not sponsored).
